ANOKA, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota city that calls itself the “Halloween Capital of the World” will host the unveiling of four jack-o’-lantern Forever postage stamps.

The U.S. Postal Service selected Anoka as the official host city for the first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony. The public ceremony takes place Sept. 29 at the Anoka City Hall River Plaza. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m.

The event will kick off a full schedule of October festivities in Anoka.

The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/2dpAT66 ) reports Anoka was chosen for the dedication ceremony after a letter-writing campaign by city leaders and residents detailing Anoka’s long Halloween history.

According to the volunteer group Anoka Halloween, Anoka is believed to be the first U.S. city to put on a Halloween celebration to divert youngsters from Halloween pranks.
