PHOENIX (AP) - A Tempe man accused of lying about serving in the military to obtain veteran status for his driver’s license and vehicle plates has been sentenced to three years of supervised probation.

Eric Wolfe was sentenced Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Last month, he pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery.

The 45-year-old Wolfe was arrested in June by Arizona Department of Transportation detectives on suspicion of forgery and using falsified documents.

ADOT officials say Wolfe submitted a document in March to a Motor Vehicle Division representative to get the special license designation.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General determined Wolfe never served in the Air Force as he claimed.

Wolfe allegedly used the forged documents to get license plates designated for veterans twice this year.
