Ahead of the airing of his Comedy Central roast on Labor Day, actor Rob Lowe has released a promo video which spoofs an infamous sex tape recorded in 1988, one which featured the Brat Pack actor in bed with a 16-year-old girl.
In the promo video, which is made to mimic the video quality of a 1980s-vintage camcorder, a shirtless Mr. Lowe is shown setting up a camera in a dimly-lit hotel room. The video begins suggestively to show Mr. Lowe, 52, back to camera, in thrusting motions, only to turn toward the camera and reveal he’s cradling a saxophone, performing the love theme from “St. Elmo’s Fire.”
The saxophone playing in the spoof video may be inspired by an iconic scene in the 1985 movie wherein Mr. Lowe’s character Billy Hicks performs an extended saxophone solo.
A somewhat iconic moment, Mr. Lowe, who doesn’t actually play the instrument, was asked to replicate the scene at a 2014 Hollywood fundraiser. According to ContactMusic.com, he later admitted his mimed performance was a fake.
