CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards will headline the West Virginia Democratic Party’s annual dinner.

Edwards would deliver the evening keynote speech Saturday at the Jefferson Jackson Dinner at the Charleston Civic Center.

Party Chairwoman Belinda Biafore said Edwards can relate to West Virginia since both states are recovering from deadly flooding.

On June 23, floods in West Virginia killed 23 people and ravaged communities. Less than two months later, floods in Louisiana killed 13 people, particularly devastating the Baton Rouge area.

West Virginia and Louisiana are among the states that should receive a share of $500 million in flood recovery money from a recently passed congressional spending bill.
