CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The U.S. Postal Inspection Service says somebody’s stealing from mailboxes in the rural Cheyenne area.

The agency said Friday the thieves are stealing checks, cash and gift cards in both outgoing and incoming mail. The thefts began in late September and continued through this week.

Postal Inspector Christopher Lucas says he’s trying to identify additional victims. He says mail theft in the Cheyenne area is rare but a high priority for investigators.

People who suspect mail has been stolen from them can contact Lucas at (307) 772-7084 or file a complaint online at https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/
