BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - A Bozeman man has pleaded not guilty to negligent homicide for a high-speed crash that killed a passenger.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2dKLc7k ) 18-year-old Jacob Burroughs entered his plea Friday in the Sept. 1 death of 17-year-old Joseph Carnefix.
Court records say Burroughs acknowledged he was driving more than 100 mph at the time of the crash, which happened a week after Burroughs was charged with burglarizing a medical marijuana dispensary.
Burroughs was released on $50,000 bail but was arrested last week after being cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol, violating the terms of his release. District Judge John Brown increased Burroughs’ bail to $60,000.
Defense attorney Nick Miller said the death was an accident and that Burroughs understands the severity of the charges he faces.
