MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Robert Bentley issued a state of emergency to help hurricane evacuees get their prescriptions filled while in Alabama.

Bentley issued the limited emergency proclamation Friday. The state is expecting a significant number of evacuees in Alabama from Hurricane Matthew.

The emergency declaration extends the time that people have to get emergency prescriptions filled from 72 hours to 30 days. The extension does not apply to controlled medications.

Evacuees from hurricane zones will have to present a medication bottle or other documentation which would provide the pharmacist sufficient information to adequately identify the drug and dosage.
