DONALDSONVILLE, La. (AP) - Ascension Parish School Superintendent David Alexander has hired an architectural firm to design the setup of temporary classroom buildings for schools damaged by the August floods.
School officials have said that the temporary classrooms will serve as a kind of bridge measure to get displaced students back on their campuses while school officials work on restoring damaged brick-and-mortar school buildings.
Record floods in the Amite River Basin in August displaced about 5,000 students, or almost a quarter of the children in the system, from five schools in St. Amant and Galvez.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/2dE9ccc) Alexander informed the school board Tuesday night in of his emergency action to hire Domain Architecture.
At Alexander’s request, the board ratified his emergency decision without opposition or comment.
