CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Officials in Horry County are assessing the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew from damaged roads and bridges to battered seaside sand dunes.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/2dJBvlv ) that there has not yet been a definitive cost estimate.
But county Public Works Director David Gilreath says almost 1,000 county roads were damaged. Among them are 200 roads that had to be closed during the storm. Dozens of county bridges were also damaged.
Officials say as many as 700 homes were damaged and dunes along county beaches were washed away. In Garden City about three feet of sand was washed onto waterfront roadways and will have to be plowed back to the beaches.
Officials estimate as much as 150,000 cubic yards of debris will have to be removed countywide.
