NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer was justified when he shot and killed a man who had fired a shot at a group of officers who were pursuing him earlier this year.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced the finding on Monday.
Authorities say Franklin Township police encountered 27-year-old Diahlo Grant in the early morning hours of April 9. Knowing there were warrants for his arrest and that he was a suspect in a shooting that injured a man, they tried to arrest Grant but he fled on foot.
The pursuit soon crossed the border into New Brunswick and Grant fired a shot at the officers. One officer then fired six shots at Grant, who was hit multiple times. He died a short time later at a hospital.
