TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a suspect who allegedly broke into a fine jewelry store in Tucson.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that 43-year-old Abel Mendoza Gutierrez has been booked on one count of third-degree burglary.
Tucson police detectives say they received information that led them to identify Gutierrez as the prime suspect in a heist.
Deputies say an alarm was triggered at Trinity Diamonds early Oct. 8.
Upon their arrival, deputies found someone had used a rock to break the front door glass to get inside.
Surveillance footage showed a suspect breaking into a safe and grabbing numerous items before fleeing.
Investigators say the damages and loss of merchandise are estimated to be more than $11,000.
It was not immediately known if Gutierrez had an attorney.
