NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Officials say an Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office lieutenant has been arrested following a domestic incident with his girlfriend.
Local media outlets report that the sheriff’s office says 37-year-old Lt. Taraunce Martin was arrested Sunday night and charged with simple battery resulting from the incident.
Deputies say an argument between Martin and his girlfriend at his home that night was reported by police.
However, The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/2e1kVS0) court records show that probable cause was found Monday to hold Martin on a more serious charge of domestic abuse battery involving strangulation.
OPSO spokesman Philip Stelly says Martin has been suspended without pay. Stelly says Martin has worked for the OPSO for at least 10 years.
It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
