GRAY, Maine (AP) - The weekend is getting off to a frosty start in northern New England.
The temperature early Saturday dipped into the 20s across much of Maine and New Hampshire for the coldest night of the season. It hit a round and chilly number of 20 degrees in Island Pond, Vermont. It was around freezing along the coast and in southern areas and in the Champlain Valley of Vermont.
Meteorologists say the killing frost is the result of a cold air from Canada.
But the cold isn’t going to last. The region should begin warming up for the next few days, with highs in the 60s to around 70 to start the week.
