BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Nearly $8 million in federal funding has been earmarked for improving travel across the U.S.-Canadian border in western New York.

U.S. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer said Tuesday that the Federal Highway Administration money will go toward upgrading traffic management and weather information systems. Plans call for an in-vehicle weather forecast and alert system to warn truckers of inclement weather and delays.

The project also includes technology to improve coordination among first-responders.
