VIENNA (AP) - The head of Austria’s right-wing party says he did not read a book warning that foreigners will destroy the country and endorsing archaic gender roles before he agreed to write the foreword.

Freedom Party chief Heinz-Christian Strache distanced himself from the book, “For a Free Austria,” on Wednesday. Strache told the Kurier newspaper that not knowing the book’s contents “was surely a mistake.”

“For a Free Austria” warns that immigration will result in a “violent process of displacement in which we invite those after our scalps to accomplish this from the inside like a wasp larva that slowly devours the grub.”

It says men yearn for women whose “brood-care instinct exceeds imposed ambitions of self-realization.”

Freedom Party presidential candidate Norbert Hofer says he thinks the book is “overall in order.”
