Officials: Pedestrian struck, killed by garbage truck

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a garbage truck in southwest Florida.

The Herald-Tribune (https://goo.gl/UzAWoV ) reports that 57-year-old Jeffery Unger was pronounced dead at the scene Monday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Unger was attempting to cross a street when a Sarasota County Waste Management truck hit him. The FHP report says the truck had the right of way.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges were immediately filed.
