Former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown said Monday that Donald Trump’s quip in his second debate showdown with Hillary Clinton — that she would be in jail if he were president — was a “home run.”

Mr. Trump’s comment came after Mrs. Clinton said it is “awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.”

“Because you’d be in jail,” he countered.

The exchange came after Mr. Trump said that if he wins the race he would appoint a special prosecutor to look into her use of a private email server as secretary of state.

Mr. Trump’s line drew applause inside the debate hall, and mixed reviews outside of it.

Mr. Trump was right to go after Mrs. Clinton over the lingering email controversy, Mr. Brown said on the show “Fox & Friends.”

“It was the line of, obviously I think, the election, the debate process,” he said. “It was a home run, and I think he won the debate.”
