WELCH, W.Va. (AP) - Two men say in separate lawsuits that they were beaten in a hallway with no surveillance cameras inside the Welch detachment of the West Virginia State Police.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports (https://bit.ly/2fadY1q) that Aaron Akers filed a lawsuit Friday in federal court saying State Trooper Ralph Justus broke Akers’ back during a beating outside the detachment. Akers is also suing Trooper B.D. Gillespie, who he says heard the beating in a nearby room but didn’t stop it.
Antonio Tollivar filed a lawsuit Oct. 27 against Justus and three other troopers. He says he was brutally beaten by the troopers two years ago in a hallway.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous didn’t return requests for comment.
