WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A man who was wounded in a shootout with a Waterloo supermarket manager has been sent to prison.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/2e8xSL9 ) that Charles Jones was given 25 years for robbery and other charges stemming from the Nov. 18, 2015, crimes. Jones was convicted after a jury trial in August. The 22-year-old has since filed notice of his intention to appeal.
Prosecutors say Jones brandished a gun when he told a clerk to open a cash register at Ray’s Supermarket. They say Jones started shooting when the store manager reached for a handgun, and Jones eventually was wounded. The manager was not hit.
Jones was arrested about 15 minutes later, after officers found responded to a gunfire report elsewhere. Prosecutors say Jones reported that a mugger shot him.
