TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona wildlife officials say they will bring more bighorn sheep to the mountains north of Tucson as part of an effort to rebuild a herd there.
Game and Fish Department spokesman Mark Hart tells The Arizona Daily Star (https://bit.ly/2eH5Wu3 ) that officials hope to capture about 20 sheep near Yuma and bring them to the Catalina Mountains in November.
About 30 sheep were brought in each year from 2013 to 2015. This would be the fourth bighorn transfer to the region.
Hart says there are now about 65 of the animals in the Catalinas, but the goal is to have about 80 to 100 sheep there.
Hart says Game and Fish is also working on tracking down and killing some mountain lions that prey on sheep in the Catalinas.
