HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - A former police sergeant from southeast Michigan has pleaded guilty to embezzling $37,618 from his elderly mother, who has dementia.
The Livingston Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports (https://bit.ly/2fpWjQ7 ) William Scott Cook pleaded guilty Friday as part of a plea agreement. He has agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution by his Dec. 5 sentencing and then $600 per month
Cook’s wife said in February her husband used his mother’s money to purchase her medications and “special food” she needed.
Police learned about potential financial discrepancies when a representative with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services contacted them in May of 2015, about one month after he resigned as a Pinckney police sergeant.
