NEW YORK (AP) - New York’s attorney general says his investigators are looking into whether they have jurisdiction to investigate the death of an emotionally disturbed man who was brandishing a glass bottle and died after being subdued by a police officer with a stun gun.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (SHNEYE’-dur-muhn) said Thursday his investigators are on scene at the Bronx home where the incident happened Wednesday evening.
Schneiderman’s office has the power to investigate police-involved deaths of unarmed people.
Police said the 49-year-old man threatened officers with a bottle before a sergeant discharged his stun gun twice.
Last month, a police sergeant was criticized for not using his stun gun when he fatally shot an emotionally disturbed Bronx woman wielding scissors and a baseball bat.
