SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A 48-year-old inmate at the Spartanburg County Detention Center was found hanged to death in his cell.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger says a preliminary autopsy report shows Kelvin Thomas Taylor died of strangulation by hanging.
Local media outlets report Taylor was being held on a Family Court warrant.
State Law Enforcement Division agents are investigating.
Sheriff Chuck Wright says Taylor was being held in the medical portion of the jail. Wright says Taylor initially was jailed in Greenville County after being hurt in a car crash, but was transferred to the Spartanburg County jail on other charges.
Clevenger said Taylor was found Friday. His relatives could not be reached over the holidays and weekend, which led to a delay in notification.
