CINCINNATI (AP) - Two University of Cincinnati police officers have testified in the murder trial of a former officer, saying that in 2015 when he was working a traffic stop they heard “squealing tires” before he fired his gun, killing a black man.
The two officers gave the same description Wednesday as testimony began in the trial of since-fired officer Ray Tensing. But a witness who was near the traffic stop says that she didn’t see a vehicle move until after the shot.
Defense attorney Stewart Mathews contends Tensing felt his life was threatened as 43-year-old Sam DuBose tried to speed away, using his car as “a weapon.”
Prosecutor Joe Deters (DEE’-turs) says Tensing was lying when he said he was in danger of being dragged to death.
Tensing has pleaded not guilty.
