After a brief battle with leukemia, 83-year-old actor Robert Vaughn has died, Deadline Hollywood reported Friday.
“Mr. Vaughn passed away with his family around him,” manager Matthew Sullivan confirmed to Deadline.
A veteran of both the small and silver screens, Mr. Vaughn is perhaps best known to Baby Boomers for his role of American spy Napoleon Solo in the 1960s TV show “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” He was also one of “The Magnificent Seven” in the 1960 blockbuster. Interestingly enough, both franchises received recent remakes in theaters with Guy Ritchie tackling the former in 2015 and Antoine Fuqua directing Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in the latter this year.
Gen-X fans may fondly remember him for cameo appearances in comedies and late-night TV in the late 1990s.
“Perfectly willing to have some fun with his long-established image of charm and elegance, Vaughn made knowing appearances in cult fare like BASEketball (1998) and Pootie Tang (2001), not to mention his angry, ranting tirades on [Conan] O’Brien’s late-night show,” said Deadline.
