PLAQUEMINE, La. (AP) - A judge has denied bond for a Plaquemine man arrested last week in two cold-case killings - one of which dates back 25 years.
News agencies report an Iberville Parish judge on Monday denied 61-year-old Tommy Francise’s request for bail following his arrest Thursday on second-degree murder charges in the deaths of two men.
Francise is accused of killing 30-year-old Curtis “Cochise” Smith and 53-year-old George Barrett. Smith was last seen in 1991 and his body has never been found. Barrett was found dead in his home in March 2002. Both were from Plaquemine.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said investigators believe the victims had done work for Francise and at some point had altercations with him. Francise, who represented himself in Monday’s proceedings, denied involvement in the victim’s deaths.
