Tornado confirmed in Maryland; thousands without power across state after powerful storm

BALTIMORE (AP) — Several thousand people are still without power in Maryland’s Howard County after powerful storms ripped through the state.

Baltimore Gas and Electric was reporting more than 5,000 customers without power statewide as of 7 a.m. Wednesday. Most of those, about 4,500, were in Howard County. Weather service officials have confirmed a tornado touched down in the county, downing power lines and uprooting trees.

Power has already been restored at thousands of customers that briefly lost power Tuesday.

The storms brought high winds, hail and heavy rain to Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C.
