Singer Don McLean has come to a $10 million settlement with his wife Patrisha to finalize their divorce, the BBC reported Tuesday.
The agreement comes five months after Mr. McLean was arrested on domestic violence charges at his home in Camden, Maine, and three months after Mrs. McLean filed for divorce citing “adultery, cruel and abusive treatment, and irreconcilable differences.”
In her divorce filing back in March, Mrs. McLean alleged a pattern of ongoing violence and said that Mr. McLean had “terrorized” her in the hours prior to his arrest in January, People magazine reported.
At one point, claimed Mrs. McLean, her husband “pressed the palms of his hands against my temples and squeezed as though my head were in a vice.”
For his part, the “American Pie” singer has denied any wrongdoing.
“What is occurring is the very painful breakdown of an almost 30-year relationship… There are no winners or losers but I am not a villain,” Mr. McLean posted to his website shortly after his January arrest.
In February, he pleaded not guilty to six charges, including domestic violence assault, and put out another statement on his website saying the matter was “a tragedy for our family and especially my wife,” according to U.S. News & World Report.
