British actor and author Michael Caine says the Hollywood gender pay gap is a myth, despite complaints by several female stars that they are paid far less than male actors.

“It’s rubbish. I worked with Elizabeth Taylor and she got 10 times more than I did — and that was over 30 years ago,” Mr. Caine, 83, who starred alongside Taylor in the 1972 film “X, Y and Zee,” told the UK Mirror.

“I don’t agree about the pay gap because she got a lot more money than me,” the “Interstellar” star added.

Mr. Caine’s comments come after several A-list actresses, including Hollywood’s highest-paid actress Jennifer Lawrence, spoke out about being paid less than their male co-stars.

In her day, Taylor was the highest-paid star in Hollywood, male or female, The Telegraph reported. She was paid a record-breaking $1 million for “Cleopatra.”
