University of Wisconsin to offer ‘Green Lives Matter’ class on environmentalism

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is set to offer a class this fall consolidating civil rights with environmentalism.

The seminar, titled “Green Lives Matter,” will explore the Environmental Justice Movement and examine the deleterious effects of capitalism on poor communities, the College Fix reported.

“This course represents an effort to learn about the Environmental Justice Movement by studying its history, causes, and the struggles of people shaping the movement,” the course’s description reads.

“Examples of topics to be covered include the following: Flint lead contamination, migrant farm worker pesticide exposure, Cancer Alley (Louisiana), mining on tribal lands, Hurricane Katrina, Alaskan natives, urban environmental harms, and others,” it says.

Other courses being offered in the fall at the public university include “Video Game Music,” “That’s So Gay! Explorations of LGBT Lives and Identities,” “From Disney’s Pocahontas to the NFL: Stereotypes and the Realities of First Nations People,” and “The Sixties.”
