After nearly three months with no winner, Wednesday’s Powerball drawing offered one of the ten biggest prizes in its history.

Officials drew numbers Wednesday for a $434.8 million jackpot in a contest that has not been won since May 7 and which is now in the kind of big-money “event” status when occasional lottery players start crowding convenience stores for tickets.

The winning numbers were 10-47-68-65-50, with the red Powerball being 24

If taken in a single massive payment, as most recent big lottery winners have chosen to do, the $422 million Powerball prize would be worth $291.8 million. Federal taxes would quickly consume almost 40 percent of that amount, with state taxes a possibility on top of that.

The $2 Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, along with the District of Columbia and some U.S. territories.

The big Powerball drawing comes less than a month after the Mega Millions drawing had a $536 million jackpot winner, though that purchaser has yet to come forward.
