ISIS militant publicly executes his own mother: report

An Islamic State militant has publicly executed his own mother in Raqqa, according to reports from a well-respected Syrian human rights group.

In a statement on Friday, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights said that a 20-year-old Syrian fighter shot his mother, who was believed to be in her 40s, “in front of hundreds of people near the post office building where she was employed.”

The monitoring group reported that sources confirmed the woman was executed after “inciting her son to leave the Islamic State” and escape Raqqa to go to a different part of Syria or Turkey. She reportedly warned her son that coalition forces would kill all Islamic State fighters.

Her son then reported his mother to Islamic State leader.

“After that he told ISIS and, 1-2-3, they arrest his mother,” Rami Abdulrahman of the Syrian Observatory told The Washington Post, using an acronym for the Islamic State.

Mr. Abdulrahman said that, since July 2014, the Syrian Observatory has been documenting the Islamic State killings of 3,707 people in Syria. The group has killed 2,001 civilians, 106 women and 77 children. He said this was the first case of a militant killing his own mother.
