Former New York Gov. and one-time 2016 GOP presidential candidate George Pataki on Tuesday endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida for president, saying he has “enormous confidence” Mr. Rubio is ready to be president of the United States.

“We need someone that’s going to bring Americans together,” Mr. Pataki said on Fox News. “Senator Rubio has the leadership, he has the vision, he has the intelligence from Congress to understand what it takes to defend us against radical Islam. I’m proud to endorse Senator Rubio.”

“I don’t tend to just endorse; I’m going to do everything I can to help Senator Rubio win this election,” Mr. Pataki said.

Mr. Pataki failed to gain much traction in the 2016 GOP race and announced last month he was suspending his campaign.

His endorsement follows former Texas Gov. and former 2016 presidential candidate Rick Perry’s endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas this week. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, another former 2016 presidential candidate, is now supporting former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
