GOP presidential contender Donald Trump paid his respects to Martin Luther King Jr. by dedicating the record-breaking crowd that turned out to see him at Liberty University to the memory of the late civil rights leader.

“It is an honor to be here and especially on Martin Luther King Day,” Mr. Trump said in his opening remarks.

Mr. Trump told the audience that the first thing he asked Jerry Falwell Jr., president of the university, and his wife, Becki, when he arrived Monday was whether the crowd set the university’s event-attendance record.

“And they said, ’Yes, you did, by quite a bit,’” Mr. Trump said. “So we will dedicate that to Martin Luther King — a great man. That’s a little bit of an achievement, I will tell you.”
