TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Outgoing Rep. Scott Garrett says his office has been furiously working to clear every constituent with an open casework file before Democrat Josh Gottheimer takes over his seat.
The Record reports (https://bit.ly/2gWiIXb ) the 5th District Republican said Monday that he hasn’t responded to correspondence from his challenger because he has nothing to tell him yet.
The two rivals reportedly haven’t spoken since the conclusion of their bitter campaign, which was beset by accusations from both candidates of such offenses as assault and bribery.
Gottheimer criticized Garrett last week for his perceived unresponsiveness, citing the backlog of constituent cases.
Garrett responded by saying his office is handling the work the same as when he came in. The Wantage man served seven terms as a New Jersey representative.
