BEREA, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Arts Council has named a new executive director.

Media outlets report the Kentucky Arts Council board of directors approved the nomination Monday of Lydia Bailey Brown as the council’s new executive director.

Bailey Brown is a longtime arts administrator and non-profit manager. Her positions have included serving as director of education at the Yorktown Arts Foundation and executive director of the Cultural Alliance of Hampton Roads in Virginia.

Bailey Brown succeeds Lori Meadows, who held the position from 2005 until her resignation Nov. 18, in the midst of a reorganization of the council board by Gov. Matt Bevin.

According to its website, the council is “the state arts agency and is responsible for developing and promoting support for the arts in Kentucky.”
