GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - More than 12 inches of rain fell in parts of the Houston area over the weekend and the precipitation will continue Monday before moving out of the region.

National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley says Galveston set a single-day record Saturday with nearly 8 inches of rain.

Stalley said Monday that nearby Texas City received nearly 13 inches through the weekend.

He says the storm system also brought up to 5 inches of rain in the greater Austin and San Antonio metro regions, causing rivers to rise and some flooding.

Rain will continue to fall in East Texas on Monday before moving out of the state.
