KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - Rick Thomason has been named publisher of the Kingsport Times-News, succeeding longtime publisher Keith Wilson.
Thomason most recently served as publisher at The Robesonian in Lumberton, North Carolina, where he led efforts to restore operations after devastating flooding following Hurricane Matthew earlier this year.
Doug Phares, president of Sandusky Newspaper Group, which owns the Kingsport paper, hailed Thomason’s strong news background.
He will start Dec. 12. Thomason will also serve as senior vice president of content for Sandusky’s eastern Tennessee newspapers, including the Johnson City Press and three weeklies, the Times-News reported (https://bit.ly/2gKraeJ ).
Wilson is retiring after more than 30 years with the Times-News, including 23 as publisher. He will remain publisher emeritus.
Sandusky’s new regional president will be Justin Wilcox, who has been Johnson City’s publisher and regional senior vice president of sales.
