LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas hotel will be partially dark for the new year due to a power outage.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2iPQLR0) 17 floors with about 500 rooms at the Rio won’t have electricity restored until after the weekend.

Officials with Rio owner Caesars Entertainment Corp. say people who booked the affected rooms will be put in the company’s other properties.

An overflowing sink shorted a fuse and caused a small fire in a service elevator Wednesday.

A backup generator compromised by water from fire sprinklers gave out Thursday morning.

About 400 rooms regained power Friday night.

Inspecting and cleaning those rooms to prepare them for guests was expected to take several hours.
