AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The top lawyer for Gov. Paul LePage has left the administration and plans to start a new law firm with a former colleague.
Avery Day, a former Pierce Atwood lobbyist, has served as LePage’s chief legal counsel since March. He previously served as a policy adviser to LePage on land-use and environmental issues.
Day tells the Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/2iIlSh1 ) he gave his notice about six weeks ago and has already left the administration.
Day, of Yarmouth, says he wants a more consistent schedule so he can spend more time with his family. He says he’ll now focus on wills, estates and real estate law.
Day is the fifth general counsel to join and leave the administration in the last six years.
