ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Allentown’s mayor and city council have reached a budget agreement after weeks of wrangling that included a veto and a threatened lawsuit.

The (Allentown) Morning Call (https://bit.ly/2ikIFTw ) reports the deal restores nearly $1 million in spending that council had cut from Mayor Ed Pawlowski’s 2017 budget.

It also gives council more say in key Pawlowski administration hires, weakens a tax increase sought by the mayor and addresses Pawlowski’s choice to lead community and economic development efforts, which was a major stumbling block in negotiations.

The mayor had threatened to sue after council voted to override his earlier budget veto, saying the council was “making it almost impossible to govern” Pennsylvania’s third-largest city.
