A magistrate has set a $20,000 bond for a South Carolina House member charged with first-degree domestic violence.
Multiple media outlets report the judge also ordered Rep. Chris Corley to not contact his wife as he awaits trial after his arrest Tuesday on charges of first-degree domestic violence and pointing a weapon at a person.
Aiken County deputies say the 36-year-old Republican lawyer punched his wife, threatened to kill her and pointed a gun at her after a fight over his infidelity at their Graniteville home Monday night.
He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the two felony charges.
Corley did not talk about the charges in court.

South Carolina House Speaker Jay Lucas says he has heard about Rep. Chris Corley’s domestic violence arrest and will take action if Corley is indicted.
Lucas said in a statement he will maintain the dignity of the House.
By law, Corley must be suspended from the House if indicted on a felony charge. Aiken County deputies charged the 36-year-old Republican with two felonies - first-degree criminal domestic violence and pointing a gun at a person.
Deputies say in a police report that Corley threatened to kill his wife, punched her and pointed a gun at her during an argument over infidelity Monday night at their Graniteville home.
Corley was in jail awaiting a Tuesday afternoon bond hearing.

Authorities say South Carolina Rep. Chris Corley attacked his wife while their kids were in their Graniteville home.
Corley was arrested early Tuesday and charged with first-degree domestic violence.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office report says the 36-year-old Republican threatened to kill his wife and punched her causing her to bleed, then pointed a gun at her before saying he was going to kill himself.
The report says Corley told an officer his wife tried to punch him after accusing him of cheating and scratched his forehead.
Corley remained in jail Tuesday morning. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer and no one answered his phone.
Corley faces up to 10 years in prison on the domestic violence charge and five years on a felony pointing a weapon charge.

Authorities say a state legislator is accused of punching a woman and pointing a gun at her in an argument over infidelity.
According to an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office report, 36-year-old Chris Corley attacked the woman around 1 a.m. Tuesday at a Graniteville home.
The report obtained by The Aiken Standard (https://bit.ly/2iA2aYO) said Corley threatened to kill the woman, went out to his car and got a gun that he pointed at her before saying he was going to kill himself. There were children in the home. The woman wasn’t identified.
Corley remained at the Aiken County jail, charged with felony first-degree domestic violence. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer. A message left at his home wasn’t immediately returned.
The Republican was just elected to a second term.
