POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) - A major winter storm hit eastern Idaho with even more ferocity than expected.

Police in East Idaho asked motorists to stay off the roads because the current storm could dump more snow on the region through Monday morning.

For most of Christmas, the blizzard caused Idaho State Police to shut down Interstate 84 from the Interstate 86 junction to the Utah border. The Idaho State Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2hHloHR) that Jefferson County pulled its snowplows off the roads Sunday afternoon because of dangerous conditions.

Winter storm watches regarding a new storm have been issued for Northern Idaho and parts of Washington state. This new storm could dump 6 to 14 inches of fresh snow on Northern Idaho starting Monday night.
