Ogden mayor appoints new police chief

OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell has appointed Steven “Randy” Watt as the new police chief.

The Standard-Examiner reports (https://bit.ly/2i0BDAM ) that Caldwell made the announcement Wednesday morning at the Francom Public Safety Building. Current Chief Mike Ashment is retiring after 30 years with the Ogden Police Department.

Watt is a retired Ogden assistant chief and will return to the department in January if approved by the Ogden City Council.

Caldwell says Watt has more than 35 years of law enforcement and military experience.
