LOS ANGELES (AP) - Southern California has received another drenching, this time from the first winter storm, and there’s more on the way.
A warm storm with tropical moisture that arrived overnight spread rain over the region, kicked winds up to 71 mph in the Malibu Hills and led to crashes and tie-ups during the Thursday morning commute.
Rain gauges brimming from autumn storms filled up even more - much needed after five years of drought.
Downtown Los Angeles has received 3.9 inches since the Oct. 1 start of the “water year.” That’s about three-quarters of an inch more than normal. Last year by this time downtown saw barely more than 1 inch of rain.
A cold storm from the northwest is expected to bring rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds starting Friday.
