WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch praised the effects federal programs are having in Wilmington during her first official visit to Delaware.
Lynch, the nation’s highest ranking law enforcement official, said during her visit Monday that programs such as the Violence Reduction Network have helped Wilmington police increase the rate at which they clear homicides.
The News Journal (https://delonline.us/2h7eoXe ) reports that Lynch says Wilmington’s homicide clearance rate has risen from about 10 percent to about 40 percent since the city was selected to participate in the VRN in 2014.
Lynch says that by engaging with the community and solving more crimes, officers are establishing a greater trust among residents who in the past may have been hesitant to come forward as witnesses.
