GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The National Weather Service confirms a tornado with winds of up to 110 mph struck Simpsonville this week.

The Greenville News reports (https://grnol.co/2h1WAOi ) that’s the most powerful twister to touch down in Greenville County since 2008.

The newspaper reports the tornado traveled 18 miles and was up to 150 yards wide.

The National Weather Service also confirmed Thursday that a tornado touched down in south Charlotte on Wednesday. Both registered as an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita tornado damage scale of 0 to 5.

There were no reported deaths from either of those twisters. At least five people died in twisters in Alabama and Tennessee.

Greenville County Emergency Management says two people were transported for medical care and an elderly woman was rescued from her home.
