PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A landlord in Maine sentenced to a 90-day jail term for a code violation stemming from a fatal fire at one of his houses is running out of time to appeal the sentence.

A judge sentenced Gregory Nisbet on Dec. 1 and he has until Thursday to decide if he will appeal. He owned an apartment in Portland where six people died in a 2014 fire.

The judge found Nisbet not guilty of manslaughter charges during a trial that preceded the sentencing.

The same judge also found the landlord guilty of a violation related to the home not having adequate means of escape from third-floor rooms.

Nisbet’s attorneys say Nisbet has yet not made a decision about whether there will be an appeal of the sentence.
