IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - The Idaho National Laboratory has helped develop a system to wirelessly charge electric vehicles.
The Post Register reports (https://bit.ly/2h2hvQ0 ) that INL researchers partnered with six companies to complete bench testing on wireless charging systems. The testing helped develop guidelines recommending how wireless chargers should be built so that chargers from one company can work with cars from other companies.
INL reported the testing results to SAE International, an engineering association that develops standards for car companies.
INL engineer Barney Carlson says wireless charging systems have yet to be widely adopted but the auto industry is considering them. He says wireless systems may be available in the next two to three new years on new cars.
