MILWAUKEE (AP) - Black ice on Milwaukee-area interstates led to a dicey morning commute for motorists.

The Journal Sentinel reported at least seven crashes by dawn. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reports a pickup driver died after plunging off the Hoan Bridge around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Lingering arctic air and wind also combined for dangerous subzero wind chills, though forecasters called for temperatures to warm into the upper teens and twenties during the day. The Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office says the frozen body of a 64-year-old woman was found Monday morning on the back stairs leading to her Milwaukee apartment.

Parts of Wisconsin got as much as 10 inches of snow over the weekend. WISN-TV reports two men died while shoveling snow.

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh called off its winter commencement on Saturday due to the weather. WLUK-TV reports it’s been rescheduled for Jan. 21.
